Cookie policy

Last updated: 6 October 2026. We review this page every year, and whenever the site’s cookies change.

This page explains which cookies and similar tools biosciencefoundation.org uses, what they are for and how you can choose. The controller is Bioscience Foundation Limited; all the details on how we process data are in the Privacy policy.

What cookies are

Cookies are small files that a site saves in your browser. Other tools, such as the browser’s local storage or scripts from outside services, work in a similar way: on this page we call them all “cookies”.

Your choices

On your first visit a banner asks whether you accept statistics and marketing cookies. “Reject” and “Accept” carry the same weight, and closing the banner with the X counts as rejecting. Until you choose, we use neither. With “Customise” you can accept one category and not the other. We remember your decision for 6 months, then ask again.

You can change your mind at any time from Cookie settings, a link you also find at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw consent, we delete those cookies from your browser.

Necessary cookies

These make the site work and keep it secure. They do not need consent.

Name Provider What it does Duration
bsi_consent biosciencefoundation.org Remembers your cookie choices 6 months
__cf_bm Cloudflare Tells people from automated programs (security) 30 minutes
_cfuvid Cloudflare Applies traffic limits fairly Session
Cloudflare Turnstile Cloudflare Anti-spam check on the contact form; uses no tracking cookies During the check

Google Analytics 4, run through Google Tag Manager, tells us how many people visit the site and which pages they read, so we can improve it. Google Analytics does not record your full IP address. Without your consent it saves no cookies, and Google receives only technical signals without identifiers (Google Consent Mode).

Name Provider What it does Duration
_ga Google Analytics Tells visitors apart 2 years
_ga_<ID> Google Analytics Keeps the state of the visit 2 years

The Meta pixel tells us whether people reach the site from our posts and campaigns on Facebook and Instagram, and lets us show our messages to people who have visited the site. Until you accept marketing cookies, the pixel is not loaded at all.

Name Provider What it does Duration
_fbp Meta Recognises the browser across visits, to measure campaigns 3 months
_fbc Meta Remembers the campaign link you arrived from 3 months
fr (on facebook.com) Meta Delivers and measures ads 3 months

Content from other sites

  • YouTube videos (some pages): we use the privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube saves no cookies until you start the video; once you do, it may store in your browser what the player needs.
  • Vimeo videos (some pages): embedded with the “do not track” option, which excludes tracking cookies.
  • Fonts: pages load their fonts from Google Fonts. No cookies are saved, but Google receives your IP address.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can also see, block or delete cookies in your browser settings (for example Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge). If you block the necessary cookies, some parts of the site may not work. For Google Analytics there is also Google’s opt-out browser add-on; for Meta, the ad settings of your Facebook or Instagram account.
